Baldr

Baldr

£11.00Price

God of the light, joy, purity and love. Son of Odin, he was loved by all.

Most notably known for his death, Frigg made all things in the world swear not to harm him. However, the trickster god Loki discovered that the only thing not to keep the promise was mistletoe. Making a spear from mistletoe, he convinced Hodr to throw it at his brother, Baldur.

This pierced the god and caused him to die. All angry and shocked, the gods demanded Baldur to return to the land of the living. Hel, who dwells in the land of the dead, said that she would only give him up if the world would weep for Baldur. All but one creature mourned for him, the giantess Thokk, and thus Baldur was never brought back from the clutches of Hel.
